I know, I know. It's been more than a month since I've updated. School has been keeping me insanely busy and far, far away from the kitchen. Until now. In fact, you can actually thank school for today's update because I wouldn't have made this cake if my classmates hadn't asked me to make a cake for a surprise baby shower for our dear friend and fellow student Ashley. I could have easily just made any regular cake, and dabbed some frosting on top and called it a day. But, of course, I decided to take the hard way and actually carve a cake and decorate it, which I have never in my life done before. Clearly, I like a challenge.
I also like when I have friends like Khaoula from http://crazy4sweets.blogspot.com/, that can assist me with these challenges. She is the cake boss of Indiana, for real. If you haven't seen her cakes, you should definitely check them out. I contacted her as soon as I got home and asked her every question that I could possibly think of in regards to decorating a cake. I also did some Google-ing, and Youtube-ing on the side for some visuals...and told myself "I got this" numerous times.
It appears I really did have it.
I had patience. I had determination. I had confidence. I had a steady hand (kind of). I had...the ability to transform a 13 by 9 inch red velvet cake into the cutest onesie cake EVER. I guess this also means, I had a certain amount of skill? Who knows. I'm just glad that Ashley loved it. And I'm thinking that this won't be the last time I decorate a cake. I discovered that I am very fond of this time-consuming, multi-step process :)
Mommy to be :)
MashAllah, this is a great post. You've really upped your game, and I feel ashamed to not have visited for so many months. Keep up the excellent work!
