Cakery Updates

Happy Friday y'all! I had an awesome recipe planned for today but my sprained wrist put me out of commission for a little while, so I wasn't able to come through. BUT, I promise that post will be up on Monday. And in the meantime, here's a quick update on some of the cakes I worked on last month :)

First up is this ruffle cake I created for a charity known as Orphans In Need, in support of their Bake Love campaign. I've done this technique before, for a baby shower, and was excited to try it in a different color and on a smaller cake. I was more excited, however, to make the banner! Cake banners are officially where it's at people. No more writing on cakes and trying to get your letters straight. Cake banners are easy, versatile, and so adorable!

Next in line is this naked cake I made for a good friend of mine. This was a first for me. A naked cake is basically a cake without any icing on the outside, so the tiers and filling are completely visible. These kind of cakes are also an upcoming trend. Seeing as how my friend follows a raw/vegan lifestyle, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try this type of cake out.

The cake itself was a paleo banana cake, and the filling was a coconut whipped cream. Dee-licious. I'll probably be posting that recipe soon because it is one for the books. And of course, my obsession with cake banners carried on throughout this cake. Don't you love how it makes the cake look so vintage? Cannot.get.enough.

And last, but certainly not least, is this beautiful three-tiered cake I made for an engagement party. It's all buttercream, with hand-piped buttercream detail. The flowers were handcrafted clay flowers that I ordered, as per request of the client. They're so pretty, right? They definitely brought the cake to life. The client was super pleased and she even thought it looked better than the design she had given me. Music to my ears!

Oh, and I guess I should mention, that after years of my friends begging me to make this hobby a business, I finally (obviously) took that step. I kept telling myself that I wanted to wait until I was absolutely perfect at cake decorating, but I know that because of how much of a perfectionist I am, I will probably never be satisfied. So, if my friends think I'm good enough, then I'll take their word for it!
