Potatoes Au Gratin

Delicious. Delectable. Heavenly. Scrumptious. All words that describe this dish.
Yes, it is THAT good. I didn't just go for seconds, I went for thirds. And there goes my diet, right down the drain. Sigh. I just can't help myself sometimes, especially with this being my favorite dish ever.

Come to think about it, this is the first dish my mother taught me how to cook. The first dish I ever cooked on my own. So I guess thats why I consider it, my signature dish.

Ingredients:
9 potatoes
1 teaspoon salt (1/3 teaspoon for each layer)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (2 teaspoons for each layer)
1/8 teaspoon of black pepper for each layer
1 lb. of mozzarella cheese (about 5 ounces for each layer)
1 cup of milk

Directions:
Peel the potatoes and wash them. Slice them into circles that are about 1/2 inch thick.
In a round baking pan, spread out some potatoes on the bottom row, add salt, butter, black pepper, and cheese.
Repeat the process twice. Then pour the milk over the potatoes.

Cover the pan with aluminum foil, make sure to poke holes in the foil.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. After one hour and 15 minutes, take off the aluminum foil. In the last 15 minutes, the cheese should get crispy and golden. If it doesn't, you can keep it in there for a little longer.

Mimi-I learnt this dish from mym mum too ;) but instead of milk she uses bechamelle sauce (white sauce/cheese) or creme fraiche.
I also like to add some halal salami in it, shredded.
    But that's my own version!

I use cream instead of milk, and cabbage.. yuppers, cabbage..., and sometimes salami :) (as one sister mentioned).
