Superbowl XLIX Dessert Table

Superbowl XLIX Dessert Table

So, this isn't so much a dessert table as it is a round-up of desserts I made for the Super Bowl this year. If you don't already know, the Super Bowl is my most favorite event ever! I like to go all out for it. And by go all out, I mean, make a bunch of desserts...mainly for other people! Like for instance, last year, I gave away this two-tiered cake . And previous years before that, I made cakes for my brother and his friends and for my co-workers as well. This year, I made a cake for my brother and his friends again, but I also did something I've never done before-- I hosted a giveaway for an entire dessert spread! Cakes are cool, but I wanted to branch out and do something different. I decided on four desserts for the giveaway: brownies, cupcakes, Oreo truffles, and red velvet cheesecake cookies. Not a bad combination, eh?

Teal Ombre Buttercream Ruffle Cake

Teal Ombre Buttercream Ruffle Cake

Hey everyone! I'm back and I come bearing cake! Although I took a few days off from the blog to celebrate Eid with my family, I ended up doing just as much baking! Funny how that works, eh? On Saturday, I made this sheep cake for Eid. Then on Sunday I made these cupcakes and these truffles for my friends baby shower. And then on Monday, I made this ombre ruffle cake for my sister-in-law. As I mentioned a few blog posts ago, I recently became an aunt to another beautiful baby boy. And well, you know an occasion like that calls for cake. You may remember the cake I made for my fourth nephew two years ago. It was an ombre petal cake and everyone went nuts over it...which was great, except now I was under the pressure of creating an equally awesome or more awesome cake for my fifth nephew. And since I'm a strictly buttercream decorator, it was twice as hard to come up with a unique design! However, I thought about what I always tell all my friends, and that is,...

Pixie Dusted Fairy Cupcakes

Pixie Dusted Fairy Cupcakes

Cake decorating truly is an all-time favorite hobby of mine. So much so, that I recently turned it i nto a business , because my itch to create all the amazing cake designs I see every day simply could not wait for the next time an occasion came up. But still, I have found myself longing for more. So, this weekend I took a stand and said, I'm going to make cupcakes for no reason at all other than the fact that I love doing so. And these fairy cupcakes were my project of choice :) I love playing around with candy melts, as you can see here , and here . They make the best cupcake toppers and if I may add, they taste way better than fondant. With some practice, you can learn to create the most incredible designs. It's all about getting the temperature of the candy melts right and having a steady hand.

Cakery Updates

Cakery Updates

Happy Friday y'all! I had an awesome recipe planned for today but my sprained wrist put me out of commission for a little while, so I wasn't able to come through. BUT, I promise that post will be up on Monday. And in the meantime, here's a quick update on some of the cakes I worked on last month :)

Buttercream Flower Cupcakes

Buttercream Flower Cupcakes

Snow has officially hit the East Coast, y'all. And with it, it has brought along sleet, freezing rain, frigid temperatures, and power outages. So basically, general unpleasantness. That's why I've taken it upon myself to bring some sunshine into your lives today, with these colorful flower cupcakes! I made these a few weeks ago for a bridal shower for one of my very close friends. I was honored to have been specifically requested to cater the dessert table and even more honored that the requestor had faith in me attempting cupcake designs I had never tried before! Though now that I think about it, I don't think she knew that part...well, I guess she knows now! Thank goodness it all worked out, huh? :) The only flower cupcakes I made prior to these were the begonia cupcakes I made in July and those were a huge hit, so I knew I wanted to make those again. But I didn't want to JUST make those, I wanted to mix it up. So, I did my research and decided tha...

Baby Shower Dessert Table

Baby Shower Dessert Table

So, remember how last weekend I showed you guys a picture on Facebook of a ruffle cake that I made for a baby shower? Well, that ruffle cake was actually part of a larger dessert table that I catered all on my own! Yup, that's right. Yours truly was requested to make a cake, as well as three other desserts for this adorable tea party themed baby shower. The desserts of choice were peaches and cream bars, snickerdoodle truffles, and chocolate chip cookie stuffed Oreos. I had only made one out of the 3 before ( the cookied stuffed Oreos ), and I had never attempted the desired ruffle design on the cake, so I was basically freaking out. But, you know me, I love a good challenge. So, I put my game face on, plotted how and when I would make everything, and got to work.

Train Theme Baby Shower Cupcakes

Train Theme Baby Shower Cupcakes

Hey y'all! Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend :D There's no new recipe today, but I do have some pretty darn cute cupcakes to share with you that I made over the weekend, so I'm not leaving you completely high and dry :P If you're a regular around here, then you know that I am slightly obsessed with making cupcakes. I get super excited whenever I hear about any upcoming parties or occasions because that gives me a legitimate excuse to make them. Even if people don't want them and have more than enough dessert to feed their crowd, I will still bring cupcakes. Cause that's just my thing.

My First Wedding Cake

My First Wedding Cake

This may already be news to you, but, I made a wedding cake guys! My first very own three tiered wedding cake. My first tiered cake period. And it was a cuhhh-razy experience to say the least. Let's talk all about it! :) Going into this what I like to call adventure, I knew what kind of filling I was going to do, what kind of cake flavor, frosting, etc. Everything was planned out to a T. I also knew that transporting the cake to a hall that was an hour away, was probably going to be the hardest part for me. It turned out that that part wasn't that bad, but more on that in a minute. The first road block that I encountered when making this cake was that my two bottom cake layers sank upon coming out of the oven. Because I never baked the particular cake recipe I was using in a 12 inch cake pan, I made the rookie mistake of underbaking it. No big deal though. I just ended up baking two additional layers, correctly this time, and then gave myself a pat on the back for de...

Baby Girl Shower Cupcakes

Baby Girl Shower Cupcakes

It's summmahhh timee. Which means everyone is either getting married, getting engaged, or having a baby. Mostly having a baby though. I swear the minute one of my friends pops one out, the other one's having morning sickness. It never ends. But it's fine by me because that means I have more occasions to practice decorating cupcakes, which if you haven't figured out by now, is one of my most favorite hobbies. I went to a baby shower this weekend, and I went cupcake crazy, making three batches with three different piping techniques. The first batch of cupcakes I made, shown in the picture above, were chocolate cupcakes using my favorite doctored up cake mix recipe . I did a simple swirl on them using Wilton tip 2D, but my frosting (which was store-bought) was runny so the swirl didn't turn out very defined. Gratefully, the cupcake toppers I made were a distraction from that. You may remember that I made candy melt monograms for wedding cupcakes last year? W...

Blue Ombre Petal Cake

Blue Ombre Petal Cake

Many of you may not know this, but right before I went to Algeria, I became an aunt again to yet another beautiful baby boy. This makes 4 nephews altogether, but who's counting? ;)   Anyways, I had to go to Algeria two days after he was born which was the hardest thing ever for me to do because I've basically always been there for all the stages of my nephews' lives and to miss a month, especially his first month, was just crazy for me. Thankfully, the days flew by pretty fast and before I knew it, he was back into my arms again. Ever since then, I've been smothering him with all of my love and affection. And maybe getting him used to being held all the time. Not good, I know. But I've spoiled every one of them so what's the point in stopping now. Well, enough about the baby. Let's talk about this cake.   To officially welcome my little bugaboo into this world, I decided that I would do none other than make him a cake. But not just any cake...

Superbowl XLVII Cake

Superbowl XLVII Cake

So, how about them Ravens? Or more specifically, how about Joe Flacco? He tore it up yesterday and officially earned himself a spot amongst the elite. Helmets off to him! Apparently, his contract is about to expire. Wouldn't it be the coolest if the Jets picked him up? Oh, a girl can dream. Football talk aside, check out this game day cake! For once in my perfectionist life, I am pleased to say that I am ecstatic with how this cake turned out. It is the new and improved version of my first Superbowl cake , which I made way back when I had no decorating tools or any experience. Embarassing, I know. But I like to think that I've redeemed myself with this one :) For starters, I made the cake bigger, by baking two 13x9 inch cakes and putting them side by side. I also used a ruler to mark my yard lines and an actual Wilton bag and round tip to pipe them. I also drew the team names in the endzones, free hand, in a straight line. And I piped the words "Super Bowl...

Baby Boy Carriage Cake

Baby Boy Carriage Cake

Does this cake look familiar to you? Well, it should. This is my third time making it. The first two times, I made it baby girl themed. This time around, I made it for a baby boy. And this time around, I made little carriage cupcakes to go with it. Cayooot right? My brother took one look at them and said "Who puts mints on cupcakes?". Um, I do. And mints are totally in season right now, so go somewhere. If you take a closer look, you'll also see another difference between this carriage cake and previous ones. Here, let me zoom in for you. Check that out. A basketweave pattern, made using basketweave tip #48 and this handy dandy video . I don't know why I waited so long to try this technique; it's really much easier than it looks. You probably can't tell from these pictures but this was more a mini-version of my original carriage cake. I made the actual carriage with a 9-inch round pan and I made the wheels with a 4-inch mini springform pa...
